A man was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for murdering his ex-fiancée in an underground parking garage on Long Island. The shooting occurred on March 31, 2022, in the New Hyde Park garage of the medical facility where the victim worked. Quay Sean Hines, age 33, of Bay Shore, was convicted in September of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Amelia Laguerre. Anthony Causi, a prominent and popular sports photographer, died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Causi, a Pace University graduate who worked for the New York Post, died on Sunday, April 12 at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, the paper announced. He was 48. First responders saved seven passengers who were in a boat that capsized on the Long Island, including one woman who was trapped under the vessel and tangled in fishing gear. A 25-year-old woman was killed when she was ejected from a motorcycle during a crash on the Northern State Parkway. Passenger Carina J. Castro Perez, 25, of Westbury, was killed around 8:44 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, east of Exit 26N in the town of North Hempstead, said New York State Trooper Daniel Ahlgrim.
