Those looking for a new place to settle down with their families may want to consider several locales in the region that have been included in the top 100 places to live in the US, according to new rankings released by Niche.
The rankings, which are based on crime statistics, public school ratings, cost of living, job opportunities, and the availability of local amenities, included several locations located on Long Island and within Westchester County.

IDs Released For 3 Killed In Fiery Northern State Parkway Crash In North Hempstead
State police have identified three people killed in a fiery Long Island crash after hitting a group of trees before the vehicle burst into flames.
The crash happened around 5 a.m. Sunday, July 24 in Nassau County on the Northern State Parkway in the area of Exit 30 in the town of North Hempstead, said Trooper Daniel Ahlgrim.

Storm Knocks Out Power To Thousands On Long Island
Hundreds on Long Island are without power as a storm brought a wintry mix of snow, ice, and freezing rain to the region.
As of around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, PSEG Long Island was working to repair 83 active outages, which was impacting 2,256 of the company’s 1,173,357 customers.
The bulk of the outages were being reported in Nassau, including 1,309 in Oyster Bay, 312 in Hempstead, and 231 in North Hempstead.
In Suffolk County, there were 404 outages being reported, with 240 in Huntington, 134 in Brookhaven, and less than five in Babylon and Shelter Island.

As of around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18, PSEG Long Island was still working to repair 341 active outages - largely in Suffolk County - which were impacting 8,641 of the company’s 1,173,478 customers.

Storm With Gusty Winds Leads To Power Outages On Long Island
A storm system with wind gusts approaching 40 mph has left hundreds of Long Island residents in the dark.
At approximately 1:45 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, PSEG Long Island crews were working to repair 42 active outages that were impacting 1,508 of the company’s 1,173,112 customers in both Nassau and Suffolk counties.
The bulk of the outages were reported in Suffolk, where there were 1,499 customers without power, while just nine in Nassau - less than five each in Hempstead, North Hempstead, and Oyster Bay - were reported during the outset of the storm.

Six people were arrested on Long Island after police conducted a search and allegedly found an assault rifle, drugs, and drug paraphernalia.
The arrest took place around midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 27 in New Cassel, said the Nassau County Police.
According to Narcotics/Vice Squad detectives, members conducted a search warrant at 52 4th Avenue.
During the investigation, detectives recovered an assault rifle, crack, cocaine, sedatives, opioids, ecstasy, cash, and numerous articles of drug paraphernalia.

Nearly 2,000 Long Island residents remain without power after whipping winds and rain caused outages, mainly in Suffolk County.
As of 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, PSEG Long Island utility crews were still working to repair 99 active outages that were impacting 1,771 of their 1,172,768 customers.
Suffolk was hit hardest, with 1,490 reported outages, while there were 267 in Nassau and 14 in the Rockaway Peninsula.

Utility crews on Long Island have been working around the clock to make repairs following Tropical Depression Ida, though thousands remain without power more than 24 hours after it hit the region.
More than 900 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors, and other utility personnel worked through the night and morning, though they were still repairing 226 active outages, which were impacting 3,504 of PSEG's near 1.1 million customers on Long Island.
