Covid-19: Long Island Sees Nearly 2.5K New Cases; Latest Rundown By Towns
There were more than 2,400 new COVID-19 cases on Long Island, according to the latest data released by the state.
In Suffolk County, 1,293 new COVID-19 cases were reported from tests taken on on Monday, Jan. 18, according to the state Department of Health. There were 1,157 new infections in Nassau.
The number of new cases is the highest of any region in the state outside of New York City, where there were 5,350 new cases reported on Jan. 18. No other county had more than 600 confirmed cases in the past 24 hours.

During the 37-day stretch between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, Nassau County has seen COVID-19 hospitalizations triple as the number of new cases continues to spike during the holiday season, County Executive Laura Curran said.

There were nearly 2,000 new COVID-19 cases on Long Island in the past 24 hours, with the numbers in both Suffolk and Nassau approaching 1,000 each.
According to the state Department of Health, There were 966 new cases in Suffolk, bringing the total to 62,647 since the pandemic began, while an additional 826 infections were reported in Nassau, as the total reached 61,988 as of Wednesday, Dec. 2.

A staff member has tested positive for COVID-19 at a Long Island high school.
The Farmingdale School District said it was notified late in the afternoon Thursday, Sept. 10 of the confirmed case.
The staff member was not present in the school building on Tuesday, Sept. 8, Wednesday, Sept. 9, or Thursday, Sept. 10, after experiencing flu-like symptoms over the three-day weekend, Superintendent of Schools Paul Defendini said.
