A Long Island police officer is recovering after a wanted man allegedly fled a traffic stop and crashed as the officer stood on the vehicle’s running board.
The incident happened at around 7:45 p.m. Thursday, July 20, in Massapequa, according to Nassau County Police.
Dennis Zvonki, age 43, of Bay Shore, was initially pulled over for speeding in a van on Sunrise Highway near Loudon Avenue.

A Long Island accident has left one injured when his bicycle was hit by a woman’s car before driving into the water, police said.
It happened on Thursday, July 13 at approximately 9:50 a.m. in Massapequa, according to Nassau County Police.
A 70-year-old man was riding his bicycle, crossing south on North Linden Street, when he was hit by a 2022 grey Buick suburban.
The SUV was traveling east on North Linden Street. After striking the bicyclist, the car swerved off the road into a small body of water nearby, police said.

A Long Island man’s Independence Day plans have been canceled after he was arrested for possessing hundreds of fireworks, including 400 mortars, police said.
On Saturday, July 1 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Nassau County Police arrested Massapequa resident Michael Masone, aged 37, for unlawfully possessing fireworks.
According to the police department, 113 cases of fireworks and 400 mortars were seized by the Arson Bomb Squad from Masone’s home.
