A $71 million construction project has been launched a year ahead of schedule on Long Island as officials seek to improve safety and access to bicyclists, pedestrians, and bus users. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced the start of a $71.4 million project to reconstruct and modernize a stretch of State Route 347 in Suffolk County. $42M Long Island Bridge Construction Projects Completed, State Says
More than $42 million in bridge construction projects have been completed on Long Island, state officials announced. The completed construction work includes a new, wider overpass carrying Walt Whitman Road over the Long Island Expressway in Melville, and the early completion of repairs to four highway bridges. Here's How Many Tickets State Police Dished Out During 'Operation Hardhat' Details
Not so fast. New York State Police troopers going undercover as construction workers in work zones dished out nearly 2,000 tickets for various violations during a special “Operation Hardhat” detail. Beginning in July and stretching through November, State Police teamed with the New York State Department of Transportation and Thruway Authority to crack down on work zone violations and encourage safer driving. Here's How Many Tickets Were Dished Out During State Police Construction Zone Details
New York State Police troopers went deep undercover, posing as construction workers, handing out more than 100 tickets to motorists during “Operation Hardhat.” Over the weekend, troopers teamed with the New York State Department of Transportation for the special detail, dishing out a total of 112 tickets to speedsters and distracted drivers on numerous highway work zones.
