Ex-Fire Department Treasurer Steals $30K Of Long Island Government Funds, DA Says A former fire department treasurer from Long Island is accused of using the department’s debit cards for personal use, withdrawing cash from out-of-state casinos. Richard Bopp, age 45, of Malverne, faced his charges on Thursday, Feb. 8, the Nassau County District Attorney announced. Bopp served as Chief of the Malverne Fire Department from 2019 to 2021; then, starting in April 2021, he became the department’s treasurer. Four Injured, Including Two Teens, In Long Island House Fire Authorities rescued a group of people from a fire at a Long Island home that injured four people, including two teenagers. At about 6 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, officers responded to an Elmont home on Marshall Street that was engulfed in flames, according to the Nassau County Police Department.  Upon arrival, three officers and one police medic first rescued an 82-year-old man from the first floor of the home, NCPD said.  Elmont Fire Department then arrived at the scene, and two firefighters rescued a 14-year-old girl from the second floor.  Authorities also rescued a 75-yea…

Man Barricades Himself Inside Long Island Home, Sets Fire, Police Say A Long Island man was charged after allegedly barricading all of the doors of his home and then setting it on fire while inside. Kevin Meyer, 31, of East Rockaway, was charged Monday, March 30, with various crimes following the event that took place around 11:49 a.m. on Elbert Place, said the Nassau County Police. According to detectives, Meyer, while alone in his home, intentionally set fire to the residence and called 911.
