19: Seven New Students Test Positive At LIU's Brookville Campus
More Long Island University students have tested positive for COVID-19. Seven new cases of confirmed COVID-19 were reported at LIU's Brookville campus, according to the university. The new cases bring the total within the LIU community, which has campuses on Long Island and Brooklyn, up to a total of 14. In a letter to LIU students and faculty members, Michael Berthel, the university’s chief of student affairs said that the students who tested positive have been quarantined and they have been in touch with anyone who may have had close contact with to instruct them to follow suit. …

All Long Island University campuses will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 8 due to an unspecified social media threat. "Yesterday, the FBI advised the university of a non-specific threat that they do not deem credible," the university said in a statement. Students, family, and friends are mourning the loss of a popular music teacher who at age 45 Jon-Michael Lasher, of Selden, who was known for his gift of playing the saxophone, died on Monday, April 22 after battling cancer for more than a decade. The band director at Connetquot High School in Bohemia since 2003, district officials said Lasher was a champion for music and dedicated to his students.
