A 22-year-old stole a Long Island fire department's pickup truck, drove while intoxicated, then crashed it into a transformer, causing a house fire to break out, according to police.
The Nassau County incident happened around 1 a.m. Saturday, March 4 in East Atlantic Beach when authorities responded to Mohawk Avenue after a report of the house fire.
Upon arrival, it was determined that a single vehicle had struck a utility pole, causing it to crack in half and a transformer to explode, Nassau County Police said.

Police on Long Island seized thousands of stolen catalytic converters and more than $4 million in cash during a raid that followed a months-long investigation.
The raids took place before dawn in Nassau County at the homes and scrapyards of two brothers in Long Beach on Wednesday, Dec. 14, said Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder at a news conference.

Alert Issued For Missing Long Beach 16-Year-Old Girl
Police on Long Island are asking the public for help locating a missing 16-year-old girl.
Angelina Hamann, of Long Beach, was last seen around 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8.
Hamann was reported missing around 7:30 p.m., said the Nassau County Police.
According to detectives, Hamann is described as a female Hispanic, 4-foot-11, 150 pounds, with black hair, and brown eyes.
She was last seen wearing a black jacket, gray sweater, and black pants.
