Several Long Island store clerks are facing charges for selling e-liquid nicotine to minors during an undercover sting operation. Suffolk County Police investigators arrested four clerks on Thursday, July 30 who sold JUULpods to minors at businesses in Mount Sinai, Medford, and Centereach. The undercover operation came following a string of complaints from the community regarding the sale of nicotine products to underage buyers. Two Long Island store clerks have been accused of selling vaping products to minors. Operation “Vape Out” was implemented on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at various establishments known to sell vaping products in the county, according to Nassau County Police detectives. As a result of the initiative, detectives utilized underage agents (persons under the age of 21) to purchase age-restricted products. NY Law Raising Legal Age To Purchase Tobacco Products Takes Effect
Older teenagers in New York will officially no longer be able to purchase tobacco or e-cigarette products. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the legislation into law on Tuesday, July 16 that raises the minimum sales age for tobacco and e-cigarette products from 18 to 21. The law took effect after 120 days, on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Two clerks at Long Island stores are facing charges for selling vape products to minors during a sting operation conducted by the Nassau County Police Department. As part of “Operation Vape Out,” which includes the use of underage agents to purchase restricted products, a pair of clerks in Nassau County were arrested and issued appearance tickets for selling to the minors. NY's First Vaping-Related Death Identified As 17-Year-Old Boy
A teenage boy has been identified as New York’s first vaping-related fatality. The death, involving a 17-year-old from the Bronx, was reported to the State Department of Health and announced on Tuesday, Oct. 8. According to the state health department, the boy was previously hospitalized in early September with a vaping-associated respiratory illness. He was re-admitted in late September and died on Friday, Oct. 4. A Long Island teenager has filed a class-action lawsuit against an e-cigarette company, claiming that it used old school advertising methods to manipulate consumers into using their products.
