Firefighters, a dive team, and tactical rescue workers were on standby after a car ended up submerged in the water of a Long Island marina. It happened on Saturday, July 13 in Islip, according to the Islip Fire Department. A Long Island church that dates back over a century was destroyed in an early-morning fire. Firefighters in Central Islip were called shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, June 18, with reports of a fire at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, located on Carleton Avenue. A man is recovering after being pulled from the wreckage of a sailboat that exploded at a Long Island marina. Emergency crews in Islip were called at around 10:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, with reports that a boat had exploded at a dock in Islip Canal, located on Main Street, according to Suffolk County Police. Firefighters rescued a 19-year-old woman and three dogs from a burning house on Long Island. An FDNY firefighter from Long Island suffered a "medical episode" and died after battling a house fire. New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced on Thursday, Feb. 17, that Nassau County resident Jesse Gerhard, age 33, of Long Beach, died on Wednesday, Feb. 16 after battling a fire in Far Rockaway the day before. Police are investigating after a driver fled when a car crashed into a Taco Bell on Long Island. The Islip Fire Department received a report at about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, that a car had crashed into the Taco Bell, located at 490 Main St., fire officials said. Woman Rescued After Being Trapped In Overturned Car In Islip
Members of the Islip Fire Department helped rescue a woman who was trapped in her car after crashing and overturning her vehicle. Crews from the department responded to a stretch of Saxon Avenue between Geneva Street and Finchburg Street in Slip shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, where there was a report of a crash. Upon arrival, firefighters found that a woman was inside the vehicle, which was on its roof, and trapped inside. Crews worked quickly to extricate the driver, who was transported to Southside Hospital for treatment on non-life-threatening injuries.
