Long Island reported more than 10,000 new positive COVID-19 cases over the weekend, with more than 4,500 in both Nassau and Suffolk.
In Suffolk County, 5,688 new COVID-19 cases were reported over the weekend, bringing the total to 113,943 since the pandemic began, according to the state Department of Health. There were 4,838 new infections in Nassau as the total rose to 102,584 as of Monday, Jan. 11.
The number of new cases is the highest of any county in the state outside of New York City.

Long Island has seen new increases in both the positivity rate for COVID-19 testing and the number of new cases, according to newly released data on Thursday, Nov. 5.
The positive testing rate in all focus areas under New York State's Micro-Cluster strategy is 3.04 percent, and outside the focus zone areas, it's 1.70 percent.
Within the focus areas, 19,814 test results were reported yesterday, yielding 602 positives. In the remainder of the state, not counting these focus areas, 141,205 test results were reported, yielding 2,395 positives.

Long Island saw another uptick in the positivity rate for COVID-19 testing, according to newly released data on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The positive testing rate in all focus areas under the state's Micro-Cluster strategy is 2.58 percent, and outside the focus zone areas is 1.13 percent.
Within the focus areas, 19,799 test results were reported Friday, Oct. 23, yielding 511 positives.
