SUV Strikes, Kills Person Walking On Sunrise Highway In East Patchogue A person was fatally struck by an SUV while walking on a stretch of Sunrise Highway (Route 27). The crash happened in the eastbound lanes near Hospital Road in East Patchogue at about 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, the Suffolk County Police Department said. SCPD said a 53-year-old Hampton Bays man was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse and struck 62-year-old Juliann McSweeney, of East Patchogue, who was walking in the left lane. Mastic Woman Seriously Injured After Blown Tire Leads To Crash On Sunrise Highway A 37-year-old Long Island woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Sunrise Highway. The crash happened on the westbound Sunrise Highway (Route 27) near Hospital Road in East Patchogue at about 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. ID Released For 27-Year-Old Killed In Hit-Run Long Island Crash Police have identified a man killed during a hit and run crash on the Sunrise Highway on Long Island. Joseph Logue, 27, of Bellport was hit and killed east of Hospital Road, in East Patchogue, at approximately 6 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, said the Suffolk County Police. Logue was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Major Long Island Road Closed Due To Fatal Hit-Run Crash A major Long Island roadway is closed due to a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian.  The crash took place around 6 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, in East Patchogue eastbound on the Sunrise Highway, said Suffolk County Police. According to police, an adult male was standing or walking on the entrance ramp to eastbound Sunrise Highway, east of Hospital Road when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.  The man was pronounced dead at the scene.  As of 12:15 p.m., the highway remains closed between Exits 53 and 54, between Route 112 and Hospital Road.
