17-Year-Old Killed After SUV Crashes Into Tree On Long Island A teenager was killed after a compact SUV crashed into a tree overnight on Long Island. The incident happened around 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 in Merrick. The teen, a 17-year-old boy, was operating a 2021 Honda CRV traveling southbound on Merrick Avenue when the incident happened.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity has not yet been released. The crash happened just before 9 p.m. Friday, May 31, in Brentwood. Suffolk County Police said the man was crossing Wicks Road, just south of Merrill Street when he was struck by a southbound 2016 Honda CRV driven by a 58-year-old Bay Shore man. The man was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead. He's now been identified as Alvaro Amaya, age 42, of Brentwood. Driver Nabbed Months After Deadly Hit-Run Crash On Long Island, Police Say Months after a 59-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Long Island, the suspected driver has been arrested. Qiulong Chen, age 35, of Ronkonkoma, was arrested Thursday, March 2 in connection to death of Joseph Biggica, according to Suffolk County Police.  A passing driver found Biggica lying unresponsive on Remington Boulevard at around 6:20 p.m. on Oct. 25, 2022. He was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
