Retail pet stores in New York will soon be prohibited from selling dogs, cats, or rabbits under a new state law aimed at ending the abusive practices of puppy mills.
Starting Sunday, Dec. 15, pet stores across the state must cease all sales, leases, or transfers of dogs, cats, and rabbits, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced on Friday, Nov. 22.

A Long Island woman has been accused of stealing nearly $340,000 from her employee.
An extensive investigation revealed that Elizabeth Stern, age 52, of Hicksville, was responsible for stealing from her former employer, Superior Air Condition & Heating Systems Inc., in Plainview.
Detectives state that over 18 months, Stern paid off her personal credit cards with checks that were stolen from the victim, totaling approximately $301,958.
During that same period, she also cashed checks totaling approximately $38,000.

A Long Island restaurant worker has been accused of forcible touching a teenage employee.
Ismatullah Kamran, age 45, of Hicksville, while employed at Halal Urban Bites located in Farmingdale at 533 Fulton Street, inappropriately grabbed and forcibly touched a 15-year-old girl he recently hired, according to Nassau County Police.

A Long Island man was charged with assault for allegedly hitting a neighboring business employee with a knife during a parking dispute.
The incident occurred in Nassau County around 1:55 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, in Franklin Square.
According to the Nassau County Police, Daljit Singh, age 58, of Hicksville, the owner of the OK Gas Station on Park Road, had a verbal dispute with an employee of another business regarding car parking on his property.

A man was arrested after he allegedly managed to intercept a nearly $80,000 check mailed from the US Treasury Department to a woman in Virginia.
Justin Meneses, age 25, was arrested on Wednesday, June 5, according to Nassau County Police.
Nearly three months before in Hicksville, on March 29, Meneses allegedly intercepted a check that was sent from the government’s Hardship Loan Program to a 57-year-old woman in the state of Virginia.
Meneses, who is from Hauppauge, altered and deposited the $79,876.52 check into his personal account, police said.

Emmitt Smith, age 43, of Bellport, was charged on Wednesday, April 24, with the larcenies that occurred across Nassau County, according to Nassau County Police.
