21-Year-Old Hit, Killed Firefighter On Long Island Before Fleeing Scene, Police Say
A 21-year-old suspect is behind bars weeks after a hit-and-run crash killed a volunteer firefighter on Long Island.
Emergency crews in Hewlett were called about a fatal crash near Broadway and Everit Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Jeffrey Frank, 74, was crossing Broadway when he was struck by an SUV traveling northbound. Witnesses told Nassau County Police that a male driver exited the vehicle, dragged Frank to the side of the road, and then fled the scene.
Frank, of Hewlett, was pronounced dead at the hospital, as Daily Voice reported.

A Long Island man admitted to strangling a woman to death in a car and leaving her body by a dumpster, authorities announced.
Andrew Avila, age 26, pleaded guilty to the charges against him on Tuesday, March 2, according to the Nassau County District Attorney, over a year after the Valentine’s Day death of Rebecca Carlson, age 39.

Police are searching for a duo who walked into a Long Island business, assaulted an employee, and ran.
The incident occurred in Hewlett on Tuesday, June 13 at approximately noon, according to Nassau County Police.
Two men entered the ASAP Restorations, located at 1265 West Broadway, and approached two employees, a 45-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman.

Hewlett Man Sentenced For Fatally Stabbing Victim In Heart On Street Corner
A Long Island man has been sentenced to prison for driving a steak knife into the heart of another man, killing him.
Keith Pooler, age 56, of Hewlett, was sentenced on Friday, Oct. 7 to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of 49-year-old Andre Garry, of Hempstead in June 2020, said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly.
Pooler was convicted in May after a jury trial before of murder and criminal possession of a weapon, Donnelly said.

A second suspect has been charged in connection to a shooting that killed one person and injured two others at a Long Island July 4th block party.

Four Charged In Killing Of Woman Found In Trunk On Long Island
Four men have been arrested in connection with the killing of a woman found dead in the trunk of a car on Long Island.
The NYPD identified the victim as Nazareth Tamir-Claure, age 44, of Queens, who formerly lived in Hewlett.
Tamir-Claure was found in the trunk on Wednesday, April 14, after police officers watched four men load a wrapped object into the trunk, the NYPD said.
The officers followed the vehicle and conducted a car stop in the vicinity of Nassau Expressway and Bayview Avenue in Inwood, said the NYPD.

Covid-19: Long Island Sees Slight Uptick In Cases, Here's Breakdown By Towns
Long Island has seen a slight uptick in positive COVID-19 cases though statewide numbers continue trending in the right direction.
There have now been 44,924 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nassau, and 45,006 in Suffolk as each county saw less than 100 new cases in the latest numbers provided by the state Department of Health.
There have been 2,198 COVID-19 fatalities in Nassau and 2,005 in Suffolk.
On Long Island, the positive infection rate over the past three days:
Monday, Aug. 31: 1.0 percent;
Tuesday, Sept. 1: 0.8 percent;
