Woman Killed, Man Seriously Injured In Great River Crash One person was killed and another seriously injured in an overnight crash on Long Island. It happened around 12:50 a.m. Friday, April 21 in the hamlet of Great River. A 1998 Jeep was traveling southbound on Great River Road, approximately 100 feet south of Montauk Highway, when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole, ejecting both occupants, Suffolk County Police said. Advisory Issued For Suffolk Residents, Visitors After 15 Samples Test Positive For West Nile An advisory has been issued on Long Island after there were more than a dozen new mosquito samples that tested positive for West Nile Virus. Suffolk County Health Commissioner Gregson Pigott announced that 15 new mosquito samples tested positive for the virus after being collected on Tuesday, July 21, and Wednesday, July 22. The positive samples were collected in Bay Shore (six); Islip (three); with one each in Bay Shore, Brentwood, Great River, Huntington Station, North Patchogue, and West Babylon.
