Brentwood Man Faked Kidnapping To Gain Favor With Estranged Spouse, Police Say
A Long Island man has been charged after he filed a false police report claiming he was kidnapped, authorities said.
Luis R. Umanzor, age 49, said he was abducted by three unknown men in the parking lot outside 1700 Veterans Memorial Highway in Islandia on Thursday, June 16 at approximately 6 a.m., Suffolk County Police said.
Umanzor, of Brentwood, said the men put a bag over his head, forced him into a car, and kept him at an unspecified location against his will for several hours before dropping him off at a local hospital.

A Long Island woman accused of shoplifting at a Victoria's Secret store became combative, resulting in the hospitalization of a responding officer, police said.
Police responded to Victoria’s Secret in Oceanside, located at 3527 Long Beach Road, Friday, June 10, at 3 p.m. for multiple larcenies that occurred in June.

Man Fires Shots On Grounds Of Long Island School, Police Say
Police say a man has been arrested for allegedly firing a shot from a handgun while on the grounds of a Long Island middle school.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was arrested at 11:45 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 26, on the grounds of Hauppauge Middle School, located at 600 Townline Road.
The man was having a dispute with his girlfriend when he fired the shots, the Suffolk County Police said.
A security guard at the school heard the shot and responded to the area.

Man Nabbed For Burglary Of Long Island Home, Police Say
A 39-year-old man was arrested for an alleged burglary on Long Island after police say he fought with officers.
Bryan McCants, of Far Rockaway, Queens, was arrested around 3:40 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, in Cedarhurst, said the Nassau County Police.
According to detectives, Fourth Precinct officers were investigating a burglary that occurred at a residence earlier in the night. While canvassing the area, officers spotted a man that fit the description from the burglary, riding a bicycle that was taken from the residence.

Duo Nabbed For Long Island Murder
Police arrested two people for murdering a Long Island man in August.
Homicide Squad detectives charged Brooke Jackson, 41, and Umar A. El-Quhir Sr., 43, of Mastic, on Monday, Nov. 23, with murder, for the Thursday, Aug. 20, killing of Earle Foster, 52, of Hempstead, in East Patchogue, said Suffolk County Police.
Jackson will be held at the Fourth Precinct and El-Quhir Sr. will be held at the Fifth Precinct, and are scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
Foster was found dead of a gunshot wound in the courtyard of the Maple Tree Apartments.
Woman Charged With DWI After Fatal Long Island Crash
A woman was charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle crash that killed a man overnight on Long Island.
It happened Sunday, Sept. 20 at approximately 4 a.m. in Lindenhurst.
Lita Davidson, 30, of Bay Shore, was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on Montauk Highway, near East Shore Road, when her vehicle left the roadway, struck a telephone pole and the man, Suffolk County Police said.

Suspect Nabbed In Church Parking Lot After Smithtown Prescription Center Robbery, Police Say
A man is behind bars after police say he robbed a pharmacy in Smithtown.
John Giunta entered the Smithtown Prescription Center, located at 260 East Main St, at approximately 9:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, approached a pharmacist and demanded narcotics, Suffolk County Police said. The pharmacist complied and Giunta fled with the proceeds, according to police.
Police responded and arrested Giunta in the rear parking lot of the United Methodist Church, located at 230 East Main St. a short time later. Major Case Unit detectives charged Giunta with third-degree robbery.
