Man Extradited To Face Murder Charge In Shooting Of Former North Bellport Neighbor, Police Say
A man is facing a murder charge in the drive-by shooting of a former neighbor on Long Island.
Shati Smith, age 28, of North Bellport, was arrested in Newport News, Virginia, on a warrant issued in Suffolk County on Tuesday, June 21, police previously reported.
He was extradited to New York on Wednesday, Aug. 3, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
Police said Smith was charged with second-degree murder for fatally shooting Lee Houpe, age 28, on Wednesday, June 15.

A 32-year-old suspect from Long Island has been arrested in connection with this week's fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman in Newark, New Jersey, authorities said.
Wesley Jean-Marie, of Valley Stream, has been charged in the shooting death of Leeana Cottle, age 21, of Newark, late Tuesday, July 21, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara.

Man Caught With 'Fishing' Tool During Stop, Greenwich Police Say
A 29-year-old man was allegedly nabbed with a device that is used to “fish” checks, gift cards or packages out of large mailboxes.
Marlon Brown, 29, of Queens, was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 29, after Greenwich Police responded to the Cos Cob train station on a report of a suspicious vehicle possibly involved in drug activity, said Greenwich Police Lt. John Slusarz.
When police arrived on the scene, they found Brown who gave officers two fake names before his real identity was discovered by taking his fingerprints, Slusarz said.
