A firefighter suffered injuries battling a blaze that broke out in a Long Island home that was tied to a nearby lightning strike, police said.
In Elmont, first responders were met with thick smoke coming from a second-story window from a Circle Drive West home at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Monday, May 16, according to authorities.

Fire Heavily Damages Long Island Commercial Building, Police Say
A Long Island commercial building that was heavily damaged following a fire was issued numerous violations.
The fire, at a cabinet manufacturing company at 19 Hillsboro Ave., in Elmont, took place around 9:45 p.m., Thursday, May 27, said the Nassau County Police.
Firefighters from the Elmont Fire Department, assisted by the Hempstead Fire Department, took about 30 minutes to extinguish the flames, said police.
No injuries were reported and there were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire, police said.

Two Racehorses Found Dead After Fire Breaks Out At Belmont Stables
A pair of racehorses died and three men were injured when a fire broke out in a barn on the backstretch of Belmont Park, officials announced.
First responders were dispatched to the track at approximately 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 when there was a fire reported inside the stables at the track on Hempstead Turnpike.
In total, 58 of the 60 horses under the care of trainers Wayne Potts and Jeffrey Englehart were safely evacuated, according to the New York Racing Association (NYRA), though two died in the fire.
