$1B Scheme: Pair Of CEOs, Including Manhasset Man, Defrauded 10K Investors, Jury Finds
A New York resident was one of two CEOs convicted in federal court of a $1 billion fraud scheme involving thousands of investors.
Long Island resident David Gentile, age 57, of Manhasset, and Jeffry Schneider, age 55, of Austin, Texas, were found guilty in federal court on all counts of an indictment charging them with conspiracy to commit securities fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and securities fraud.
Gentile, the owner and CEO of GPB Capital Holdings, was also convicted on two counts of wire fraud.

Three underage former employees are suing a Long Island wedding venue, alleging they suffered “egregious” sexual abuse and, later, retaliation when they came forward.
A lawsuit filed in the Eastern District of New York on Saturday, March 30, accuses Sand Castle Caterers in Franklin Square of turning a blind eye to abuse and harassment allegedly suffered at the hands of manager Enrique Sanchez.
The victims, who were 15 years old at the time, worked at Sand Castle as waiters from the summer of 2022 to August 2023.

A 24-year-old from Long Island is the latest in a trio of people to admit to a scheme of selling fake pain pills that actually had fentanyl in them, leading to two overdose deaths.
Devon Thurmond, a Glen Cove resident, pleaded guilty to running the scheme that caused two deaths on Friday, March 22, according to the US Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York.
From 2021 to 2023, Thurmond conspired with two other Glen Cove residents — Cartier Funderburke, age 24, and Melissa Trimarchi, age 37 — to sell fentanyl that was disguised as oxycodone pills.
