It happened on Monday, Oct. 28 just after 9:15 p.m. in East Islip. John Dempsey, 60, of West Islip, was crossing Carleton Avenue eastbound, just south of Jefferson Street, when he was struck by a southbound 2002 Toyota Corolla, according to Suffolk County Police.  Dempsey was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries. Laurie Addeo, 61, a resident of the home, was killed when the fire started around 2:12 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, at the home at 3 Washington Ave., said the Suffolk County Police. Police said the five other residents of the home were able to escape unharmed. Detectives do not believe the cause of the fire is suspicious, police said.
