A Long Island school has appointed its new principal, school officials announced. On Thursday, June 29, East Islip Middle School announced the appointment of Michael Hansen as its new principal in the wake of previous principal Bill Brennen’s retirement, officials at East Islip Union Free School District announced. Long Island High School Removes Indian Mascot Logo From Building
A controversial high school mascot on Long Island has been pulled following years of debate over the issue. East Islip High School officials announced that they are removing the controversial “Redmen” mascot from the building following a lengthy debate amongst the district and community. However, while the imagery of the Indian has been removed, the words “Home of the Redmen” are still prominently featured on the building. It is unclear when or if that will be taken down. 19: Staff Members At Long Island Middle School Test Positive
A middle school on Long Island has transitioned to its distance learning model for the rest of the month after new positive COVID-19 cases were confirmed in staff members. The East Islip School District announced on Thursday, Nov. 12 that it would be switching to remote instruction until at least Tuesday, Dec. 1 due to seven confirmed COVID-19 cases among the staff. 23-Year-Old Killed In Horse-Riding Accident At Area Farm Remembered For Love Of Animals
A 23-year-old Fairfield County resident who was killed in a horse riding accident was known throughout the area for her love for animals and her dedication to creating a career in equine rehabilitation. East Islip High School graduate Samantha Calzone, 23, of Greenwich, was killed Monday, Sept. 16, after falling off a horse at a family farm in Dover Plains on Byrds Hill Road, said the New York State Police.
