The suspect in the death of a Long Island mother whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase was formally charged hours before her loved ones gathered to say their final goodbyes. Ronald Schroeder, age 41, of Huntington Station, was indicted for concealment of a human corpse and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the death of Seikeya Jones. A Long Island man could spend a decade behind bars for opening fire on his neighbors, nearly hitting a sleeping child. Steven Frigand, age 58, of North Massapequa, pleaded guilty to drug and weapon charges in Nassau County Court on Monday, July 29. Police were called to his Sussex Avenue apartment shortly before 1 a.m. on Aug. 20, 2023 after neighbors called 911 reporting multiple gunshots. Two New York women convicted of non-violent federal drug offenses are among 16 people nationwide to receive clemency from President Joe Biden. Stacy Wilder, age 49, of Albany, served nearly six years in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine in the Northern District of New York in January 2003. Long Island Man Jumps From Moving Vehicle While Fleeing From Officers, Police Say
A Long Island man was arrested after jumping from his vehicle while it was still moving following a pursuit. Ronald Opolu, age 23, of Baldwin, was arrested around 9 p.m., on Monday, March 8, in Roosevelt following on drug and weapons charges as well as fleeing from police, said the Nassau County Police. According to detectives, police on patrol spotted a 2020 Mercedes Benz traveling northbound on Nassau Road at a high rate of speed and failing to signal while changing lanes. Trio Charged After Shots Fired Into Long Island Home, Police Say
Three men are facing charges following a lengthy investigation into shots that were fired and struck a Long Island home, police said. Nassau County Police detectives were called to investigate a report of shots fired on 2nd Street in East Meadow shortly before 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 19. Police said that the investigation determined that three rounds struck the home while residents were inside. No injuries were reported, and the suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction.
