Melville-Based Boiler Room Employees Sentenced For Their Roles In $147M Stock Scheme
Employees at a Long Island-based boiler room have been sentenced to time behind bars for their roles in a $147 million stock manipulation scheme.
Ronald Hardy, 42, of Port Jefferson, a manager at Power Traders Press, My Street Research and other companies located in Melville, and Dennis Verderosa, 67, of Coram, a cold-caller and account executive at the boiler room, were sentenced to 10 and six years in prison, respectively, for their roles in the scheme.

Eight people, including three Long Islanders, have been arrested in connection with running a massive misbranded opioids operation out of a warehouse in Queens.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the "ring" imported misbranded controlled substances, including Tramadol, into the U.S. from India. They would then repackage the pills and mail them to millions of customers throughout the U.S.

Man Found Murdered In Dix Hills, Police Say
An elderly man believed to have been murdered in his Dix Hills home Tuesday evening, June 11, according to Suffolk County Police.
The man, 74, who was found dead in his residence at 22 Penn Drive in Dix Hills at approximately 6:15 p.m.
The man, Armindo Reis, lived alone in the residence, according to police.
When neighbors could not get in contact with him on Tuesday, they called his son, police said.
When Reis’ son arrived at the residence at approximately 6:15 p.m., he reportedly found his father unconscious and called 911, according to Suffolk Police.

Six Faculty Members, Three Students Hospitalized After Melee Breaks Out At Dix Hills School
Six faculty members and three students were hospitalized after being exposed to pepper spray during a fight between students that broke out at a school in Dix Hills.
The incident took place around 8 a.m., Thursday, May 9, at the Wilson Technological Center in Dix Hills which is part of Western Suffolk BOCES, when a female student sprayed pepper spray at two other students, said the Suffolk County Police.
The two students who were sprayed, and an additional student, as well as six faculty members, were transported to Huntington Hospital for evaluation, police said.
