Two NY Lawyers Accused Of Stealing $1M From Dead Client's Charity
Two Long Island lawyers are being sued by the New York Attorney General’s Office for allegedly stealing more than $1 million in funds earmarked for charity by a dead client. New York Attorney General Letitia James announced on Wednesday, April 27 that she has filed a civil complaint against lawyers Paul P. Marchese and Robin S. Maynard, both of Manhasset, for allegedly paying themselves with funds meant for a charitable foundation. Long Island Fire Departments Issue Alert On Donation Scams
Long Island fire departments are warning the public about a scam from a donation mailer they have no affiliation with. The South Farmingdale Fire Department said on Facebook the letter from the Volunteer Firefighter Alliance Charity recently went out to residents in Nassau County. The letter, from the Volunteer Firefighter Alliance Inc., asks for donations to support an annual fund drive for firefighters but, the department said they are not affiliated with the organization. Police Issue Alert After Area Resident Loses $1K In Email From Friend Charity Scam
Police are warning area residents to be wary after one was taken for more than $1,000 as part of a charity scam. Police have issued an alert warning of a charity scam involving a phony email sent from fraudsters. According to police, the resident received an email they believed to be from a close friend, including the use of the first and last name.
