A civilian mechanic employed by a Long Island sheriff's office was indicted for allegedly leaving the site of a car crash he caused with a company vehicle and falsely reporting the crash later, authorities said.
Brian Sloan, age 57, was driving a truck owned by the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, his employer, on December 23, 2022, at the time of the accident, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney.
Sloan allegedly ran a red light in Patchogue, on Yaphank Road, crashing into a sedan making a lawful left turn and injuring the driver.

Driver Flees Cops, Crashes Into Second Car During Traffic Stop On Long Island, Police Say
A 26-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly crashing into another car while fleeing a traffic stop on Long Island, authorities said.
Tyshawn Cullum, of Uniondale, was arrested following the crash, which occurred at around 6 :15 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, in Baldwin, according to Nassau County Police.
Officer had initially attempted to stop Cullum’s 2015 Toyota in Hempstead, near West Marshall Street and Virginia Avenue, but he refused to stop and fled the scene, police said.
