10 Rescued From Sinking Boat Off Long Island Coast
Nearly a dozen passengers were pulled to safety from a boat that was sinking off the northern coast of Long Island. The incident happened around 8:40 p.m. Saturday, July 25, in Half Moon Bay off of Sands Point in Nassau County. According to Nassau County Police Marine Bureau Officers, while on routine patrol, Marine 8 observed a 21-foot vessel operating and taking on waves over its bow. Five Rescued From Capsized Boat In Long Island Sound
Five people were rescued after their boat overturned in the Long Island Sound. The incident happened Tuesday, July 7 at about 4:30 p.m. off the coast of Crab Meadow Beach in Fort Salonga in Suffolk County. Upon arriving, Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers Dave Froehlich and Patrick Ennis found the five, all men, standing on the underside of a recreational 21-foot Pro-Line vessel that overturned after being struck by a wave approximately 20 minutes earlier. Seven On Sinking Boat Saved By 12-Year-Old's Call For Help
A group of seven people stranded on a sinking boat on Long Island Sound were rescued by police after a call from a 12-year-old onboard. The incident took place around 3:13 p.m., Sunday, May 24, when the Southold Police Department received a call from a 12-year-old boy reporting he was on a boat on the Sound that was sinking. Southhold Police marine units located the vessel about a mile northeast of Duck Pond Road in Cutchogue, police said. Four Rescued After Boat Capsizes In Long Island Sound
Four people were rescued from the waters of Long Island Sound after the catamaran capsized while attempting to anchor. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, near Fishers Island, said Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Hunter Medley. Medley said the group was attempting to drop anchor when the boat capsized. A man was rescued after awaiting help on top of a sailboat that overturned when it was hit by a powerful wave. It happened around 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 in the Jones Inlet off Freeport. Upon arrival by Nassau County Police Marine 6 officers, it was determined the boat had been hit by a large wave and the operator, a 45-year-old man, was thrown into the water. Newly Signed NY Boat Safety Law Honors Memory Of 11-Year-Old Girl
New legislation has been signed into law improving boating safety in honor of an 11-year-old girl who died in a 2005 accident. Brianna’s Law was signed by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo this week, which will phase in requirements that all operators of watercraft must complete a state-approved boating safety course.
