Long Island Man Charged With BWI After Crash Sends Now Missing Passenger Overboard
A Long Island man has been charged with boating while intoxicated after the vessel he was operating struck a jetty and one of his passengers went overboard and is now missing.
Jack Benjamin, age 25, of Farmingville, was operating a 2003 Parker center console boat in the Great South Bay when the vessel struck a jetty in Sayville at the end of Browns River Road at around 1:25 a.m. Monday, July 5, Suffolk County Police.
A male passenger, also age 25, who was not wearing a life jacket, was thrown overboard, according to police.

Boater Injured By Propeller After Leaving Boat In Gear, Police Say
A 57-year-old man suffered serious injuries after he was struck by the propeller of an 18-foot boat that he had rented for the day in Great Peconic Bay off Laurel.
The incident took place around 2:40 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20, when the man, identified as Stefan Palm, a visitor from Germany, entered the water to take a turn on a water tube and failed to realize that the boat had been left in gear, said the Southhold Police Department.
The action caused the boat to keep moving and the propeller hit Palm in the leg, causing extensive damage to his lower extremities, police said.

ID Released For Long Island Woman Killed When Boat Is Struck By 50-Foot Sea Ray
Both women killed in separate boat crashes on Long Island on Sunday, July 14 has been identified.
The most recent crash happened around 6:30 p.m. east of Moriches Inlet, when a 50-foot Sea Ray with three people aboard was traveling westbound a quarter mile off Cupsogue Beach at Cupsogue Beach County Park when it struck a drifting boat broadside with a married couple aboard, Suffolk County Police said.
Mi Hua Hsu, 56, of Shirley, has been identified as the woman killed in the crash.
