State Of Emergency: 'Extreme Weather Event' Threatening Long Island, Hochul Says A severe weather system bringing several inches of rain to Long Island has prompted New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency in the region. The state of emergency, declared by Hochul on Friday, Sept. 29, covers all of the Long Island, New York City, and Mid-Hudson region and comes in the midst of a weather system with peak rainfall amounts of three inches per hour, according to Hochul's office. 12-Year-Old NY Boy Caught Using Stolen Credit Card After Running Away From Home In Family's SUV A 12-year-old New York boy and his 7-year-old cousin took off in the family SUV, taking police on a chase in an attempt to buy cookies with a stolen credit card.
