Fatal Hit-Run Crash: Suspect Nabbed In Suffolk County
A Long Island man has been arrested following a months-long investigation into a fatal hit-and-run.
Southampton Town Police said Benjamin J. SheenWaltzer, age 32, turned himself in on Friday, Nov. 15, after being linked to a crash on Springville Road in Hampton Bays.
The crash on Wednesday, March 6 killed Angel Astimbay, age 67, a resident of Hampton Bays.
SheenWaltzer, of Southampton, faces felony charges of:
Leaving the scene of an accident with injuries resulting in death,
Tampering with physical evidence.
He was arraigned in Suffolk County Court and released on $50,000 bail.

Long Island’s David Cruz, age 31, of Medford, was indicted for first-degree manslaughter Thursday, Sept. 22, in Suffolk County in the death of Jake Scott, of Centereach.
Cruz was working as a bouncer at Tailgaters Bar in Holbrook on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, when he got into an argument with Scott shortly before 3 a.m., according to the Suffolk County DA’s Office.

A Valley Stream man has been charged with manslaughter and two counts of assault in connection with a high-speed chase that ended in a fatal crash.
Dana King, Jr., 23, was arraigned Tuesday, May 7, for the March 18, crash that killed a father of two children, Jim Hayes Jr., 22, of Hempstead, said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas.
