An 18-year-old man was arrested months after he allegedly stole a mailed check from Long Island and deposited it for himself.
Nassau County Police announced it had arrested Andrew Herrera, age 18, for his alleged role in stealing an Atlantic Beach check nearly a year before, in March 2023.
The victim, a 69-year-old man, first mailed the $8,000 check from the Atlantic Beach Post Office, at 1848 Park Street.

A traffic stop soon turned into four arrests when a quartet was found to be tossing switch blades and hiding various drugs in their car, police said.
It happened on Friday, Dec. 22 in Atlantic Beach, according to Nassau County Police.
At around 12:30 a.m., police pulled over the quartet’s car, a 2018 Jeep Wrangler, near the intersection of Park Street and Ithaca Avenue for what officers said were multiple traffic violations.

Covid-19: Long Island Sees Slight Uptick In Cases, Here's Breakdown By Towns
Long Island has seen a slight uptick in positive COVID-19 cases though statewide numbers continue trending in the right direction.
There have now been 44,924 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nassau, and 45,006 in Suffolk as each county saw less than 100 new cases in the latest numbers provided by the state Department of Health.
There have been 2,198 COVID-19 fatalities in Nassau and 2,005 in Suffolk.
On Long Island, the positive infection rate over the past three days:
Monday, Aug. 31: 1.0 percent;
Tuesday, Sept. 1: 0.8 percent;
Wednesday, Sept. 2: 1.1 percent.

Police are asking the public's help in identifying a pair of suspects accused of causing $200,000 in damage and stealing cash from a beach club on Long Island in two separate burglaries.
They happened around 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 11 and 9 p.m. Friday, June 12 in Atlantic Beach.

A couple is facing a host of charges after being indicted for alleged mailbox fishing on Long Island, authorities announced.
Yoli Gomez Osoria, 27, and Andrea Rose Gomez, 28, both of The Bronx, were arraigned on a grand jury indictment for allegedly mailbox fishing in Atlantic Beach.
