Pedestrian Critically Injured After Being Struck Outside Long Island Restaurant A man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle outside a popular Long Island restaurant, authorities announced. Nassau County Police said that a 44-year-old man was driving a 2014 Dodge northbound on North Franklin Street outside La Verna Tavern in Hempstead at approximately 10:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 5 when he struck a pedestrian that was crossing the street.
