In Nassau County, COVID-19 took out Island Trees High school before they could face top-seeded Seaford under the lights on Friday night after a coach and some players tested positive for the virus.
It is unclear how many student-athletes tested positive for COVID-19.
Island Trees athletic director Sean Burns informed Section VIII earlier this week of the decision, ending the football team’s season at 4-4 after losing their final game 42-0 to drop into the eighth and final seed in the bracket, setting up a rematch with their rival.
According to the state’s COVID-19 “Schools Report Card,” as of Thursday, Nov. 4, 36 students have tested positive, along with four teachers in all of Island Trees High School.
The Seaford Vikings (8-0) automatically advance into the semifinal round of the Nassau Conference IV playoffs that will be played at Hofstra University next week.
