Selden resident Candice Girolando, 37, was driving west shortly after 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, on Route 25 when she drove into a Jeep at the intersection of Blue Point Road, police said. After crashing, she allegedly fled on foot before she could be apprehended by officers from the Suffolk County Police Department.
According to police, after being taken into custody, Girolando fled from officers and was again apprehended shortly thereafter.
The driver of the Jeep and two passengers were transported to Stony Brook Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Girolando was not injured in the crash.
Girolando was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident with physical injury and escape. She was also cited for a pair of vehicle and traffic violations. Girolando was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on Monday.
