A woman is dead and her daughter injured after a fire broke out at a home on Long Island.
Crews from the Patchogue Fire Department responded to an Ohls Street home at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Friday, June 14, where a blaze broke out, officials said.
Elisa Doughty, 65, was trapped inside the home. She died from injuries suffered during the fire and was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
Kristie Doughty, 34, Elisa Doughty's daughter, was transported by a North Patchogue Fire Department ambulance to Stony Brook Hospital with burns to her arm.
Several others were able to escape the home after the fire broke out. The fire is not believed to be suspicious.
Crews from the North Patchogue, Hagerman, Blue Point, Patchogue, and Medford Fire Departments responded to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section.
