A 73-year-old man was hit and killed while crossing a busy Long Island roadway early on New Year's Eve Day.
According to the Nassau County Police Homicide Squad, the fatal accident took place around 6:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, in Woodmere.
According to detectives, a 2019 Infinity SUV driven by a 36-year-old woman was traveling southbound on Peninsula Boulevard when the vehicle struck the man near the intersection of Edward Avenue.
The man suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
He was later pronounced dead by hospital emergency medical staff at 7:41 a.m., Nassau County Police said.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
