Jasmin Santana, 38, of Elmont, was arrested around 8:50 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, after Nassau County police responded to a call for help, said the Nassau County Police.
According to detectives, a 19-year-old woman reported that Santana told her she had COVID-19 and was coughing and spitting on doors throughout the home.
When officers responded, they found Santana was allegedly intoxicated and acting irate when they attempted to escort her to an ambulance for treatment, according to police.
Police said Santana became combative, physically fought with and spit at officers repeatedly, as they attempted to transport her to the hospital.
During the scuffle, an officer was kicked in the face, splitting his lip open, causing substantial pain, bleeding, swelling and a severe headache with neck pain, police said.
Santana was placed under arrest and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation.
The injured officer was also treated at the hospital and released.
Santana was charged with assault and obstructing governmental administration. She is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, April 9.
