Nassau County Police officers in an unmarked vehicle stopped an Audi near the intersection of Lakewood Avenue and Rose Avenue in Roosevelt when the driver failed to come to a complete stop at approximately 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, the department announced.
During the subsequent traffic stop, officers said that there was the smell of marijuana in the Audi and the three occupants were uncooperative.
While speaking with the three men, police said that Steven Townsend, of Roosevelt, was ordered to exit the backseat when a bulge in his waistband was spotted.
Townsend was searched and a loaded black semi-automatic handgun was found on him, and he was taken into custody by officers.
Townsend, 30, was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and false personation.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
