21-Year-Old Accused Of Ramming Police Vehicle On Long Island

A 21-year-old man has been arrested for an assault, including fighting with police and striking a police vehicle on Long Island.

David Sang, age 21, of Brooklyn, was arrested around 6:28 p.m., on Thursday, March 18 in East Garden City, said the Nassau County Police.

According to detectives, Sang was spotted driving a 2001 Nissan at a high rate of speed in the vicinity of 630 Old Country Road. The detectives activated their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. 

As officers approached the vehicle Sang allegedly became combative and refused to comply with their commands, police said.

A second police officer arrived on the scene to provide assistance. At this time, Sang fled in the vehicle and struck the second police vehicle, police said.

Sang was traveling northbound on Ring Road and lost control of the vehicle striking the median where he was arrested.

Due to the collision, the officer suffered head, back, and neck pain. He was taken to an area hospital, treated, and released.

Sang was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

He was charged with:

  • Assault
  • Criminal possession of a forged instrument
  • Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a vehicle
  • Reckless driving
  • Criminal mischief
  • Speeding

 He was arraigned on Friday, March 19, in Mineola.
