Officers Joanna Westrack and Daniel Paiva responded to a 911 call on Saturday, Aug. 3, where there was a report of a trapped kitten on Ontario Street.
Upon arrival, the officers found the tabby kitten all the way at the bottom of the drain. The resourceful officers used a rope, made a loop, and managed to get the kitten to step into it with his upper body. They then pulled the kitten out of the drain safely without further incident.
After being rescued, the frightened kitten was transported to Animal Emergency Service in Selden for treatment of malnourishment and respiratory difficulty.
The kitten, who is approximately 8-weeks-old, is currently recovering, and Westrack plans to adopt him when he makes a complete recovery.
