The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office announced Ian Kazer, age 31, Syosset man faced up to 25 years to life in prison after being convicted on Wednesday, June 2, in a bench trial before Judge Angelo Deligatti.
According to the indictment, on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, Kazer killed his 66-year old mother, Frances Kazer, by stabbing her 47 times. He also stabbed his father on the left side of his chest.
In March 2019, Kazer, who lived at his parents’ home in Syosset, began stealing from his job at a local Target, the DA's Office said.
He used stolen gift cards to send electronics – including a television – to his home. On March 20, he was fired from his job and given a desk appearance ticket for stealing more than $2,500 from his workplace.
Kazer originally told his parents that he had won a $500 gift card from work, but later told them the truth and admitted he was fired and was given a criminal summons.
The family had an argument, agreed to return the items, and hire a lawyer. The son returned to playing video games.
That evening, Kazer's father left the home to get pizza for dinner. While he was away, he approached his mother at the kitchen table and stabbed her 47 times – in the head, throat, chest, and hands. Kazer then took off his bloodied clothes and covered his mother’s body with a blanket, the indictment said.
When his father returned home, he attacked him with a knife – stabbing him in the chest. The father was able to wrestle the knife away from Kazer and he fled the scene in only his underwear.
Kazer was found by police approximately a mile from the house and placed under arrest.
Frances Kazer was transported to Nassau University Medical Center and pronounced dead. The father was treated for his injuries.
