David O’Brien, now 19, has been sentenced to a term of between four and 12 years in prison after pleading guilty in Riverhead to all charges in a 17-count indictment on Friday, May 24, including aggravated vehicular homicide for his role in the 2017 crash that killed Joseph Galdorisi, 16 and Maggie Miller, 24.
According to reports, in court, O’Brien addressed Galdorisi’s family, saying that "I know I will never know the feeling you all feel.”
In court, O’Brien admitted he was speeding and driving his 1998 Ford Mustang recklessly and under the influence on Oct. 9 two years ago when he crashed into a tree on North Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst.
Galdorsi was pronounced dead at the scene. Maggie Miller, who was in the backseat at the time of the crash, died hours later at an area hospital. The investigation would later determine that O’Brien was driving at least 50 mph in a posted 30 mph zone when he struck the tree.
Reports stated that the judge presiding over the case noted that he was troubled by the crime, and a social media post made before O’Brien’s arrest, at which point he made light of driving while high, which directly contrasted his conduct in court.
O’Brien had been free on $75,000 bail. He was remanded into the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.
