On Monday, Aug. 28, the Suffolk County District Attorney announced the indictment of 45-year-old Mastic resident John Imbasciani on charges of assault and reckless endangerment after a police chase he was involved in.
Imbasciani is accused of throwing a full glass bottle at a police officer while driving his car on Thursday, Aug. 17.
The officer was standing next to his marked police vehicle when Imbasciani threw the glass. He got into his car to pursue Imbasciani, but the suspect did not stop, according to the DA’s Office.
A second officer, also in a police car, joined in the pursuit.
However, during the chase, Imbasciani allegedly purposefully crashed his car into the second officer’s car.
The crash not only caused damage to the car but also injured the officer, who needed medical attention following the incident.
Imbasciani was arrested after the crash.
“Protecting our police officers in the performance of their duties is of the utmost importance,” said District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney in a statement.
He is charged with:
- Second-degree assault, two counts (felonies);
- Criminal mischief (a felony);
- Third-degree assault;
- Reckless endangerment;
- Reckless driving; and
- Unlawful fleeing from a police officer.
Imbasciani is being held without bail and is next scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
