It will be the first location of the franchise on Long Island its owners envision as a community gathering place.
Manager and co-ownerJeff Wong is a former pharmacy technician and co-owners Chris Varvaro, a pharmacist and Lou Puleo, the two recently sold a pharmacy on Long Island.
Wong said their cafe will have a modern and cozy feel with "good WiFi" so workers and students working on projects can be comfortable. Parents, whether moms in for a coffee meetup or with their kids, will also feel welcome.
He said a grand opening this fall will be announced on Facebook.
Ideas to create a community feel include having "playdates" where parents and children can meet to socialize, complete with cookies and milk for the kids, nonprofit charity events, open mic events for local talent, and a "Great Grades" program that rewards students who get three As in a row with voucher for a free beverage.
Student art exhibits and craft times are also planned, said Wong who met recently with other business owners in Smithtown.
"They're really happy we're coming. Everybody's been open arms."
Streetwaters Coffee & Tea is located at 200 W. Main St., Smithtown.
