Wild Police Chase Ends On Route 287 With Shots Fired, Driver In Custody A motorist who fled Ringwood police was captured after gunshots were fired on Route 287 in Mahwah before dawn Wednesday, responders said. A Ringwood officer apparently came upon the sleeping driver near the Monksville Reservoir boat launch and tapped on the window of the white SUV around 5:30 a.m. The startled motorist put the vehicle in gear and either hit him or his cruiser as she took off down Skyline Drive toward the interstate, responders said. “There was never any indication that the officer was seriously hurt,” one told Daily Voice. Van Snaps Utility Pole In Ringwood A driver sustained injuries that weren't considered life-threatening after a van slammed into a utility pole, snapping it, early Wednesday evening in Ringwood. Skyline Drive was closed at Greenwood Lake Turnpike after the crash just after 5:30 p.m. Power had to be cut to the pole so the driver could be taken to the hospital and the van could safely be removed.

Victor Weinpel, 19, of Wanaque, lost control of a 1999 Toyota Corolla after it hit a guardrail on Greenwood Lake Turnpike north of Skyline Drive around 3:15 p.m., authorities said. The sedan crossed into the oncoming lane and was T-boned by a 2014 Chevy commercial van.
