Yonkers Fire Station 4 Unveils New Engine YONKERS, N.Y. -- New Engine 304 was unveiled recently at Fire Station 4 on Radford Street in Yonkers.  The new Engine 304 is made of stainless steel, which allows for greater strength and corrosion resistance. The new engine is smaller than the outgoing apparatus, which allows for greater maneuverability, especially on some of the narrow streets in southwest Yonkers. Station 4 primarily serves the southern and western portions of the city but is prepared to respond to calls citywide. Valhalla Neighborhood Hosts 'Unusual' Holiday Parade VALHALLA, N.Y. -- If you live in the Foxhill/Galloway neighborhood of Valhalla, you might have viewed the most unusual Christmas parade on Sunday. Approximately sixty neighbors of all ages decorated a vehicle of their choosing, lined up at the intersection of the two streets, and began the first ever Foxhill/Galloway Christmas Parade.  There were bicycles, strollers, wagons, lawnmowers, quads (both big and small), carriages, and walkers. They were all adorned with lights, music, tinsel, garland, and more. The parade was led by Dave Perri driving a completely decorated pick-up truck.  There…

Santa, Mrs. Claus Visit Sunshine Children's Home OSSINING, N.Y. -- Santa and Mrs. Claus surprised the children at Sunshine Children's Home with a police-escorted visit on their sleigh. The Police Columbia Association of Westchester, purchased individual toys specific to the special needs of each child. This organization has raised funds for the past 15 years to bring this Christmas event to the Sunshine Children's Home.

Darien's Harold H. Dean Sets World Record As Oldest Hockey Player DARIEN, Conn. -- Darien resident Harold H. Dean now holds the Guinness World Record for being the oldest hockey player.  Dean, 86, a former Connecticut Superior Court Judge, played for the Puckaneers Ice Hockey Team in Oldsmar, Fla. Most recently competing in the 2015 USA Hockey National Championships in the over-70 division. His love of the sport began in high school and continued throughout college at St. Lawrence University. Authors Visit Students At New Rochelle's Daniel Webster School NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Book authors Steve Metzger and Dave Roman visited Daniel Webster Elementary School in New Rochelle this week to share how they write and illustrate their books and to answer student questions.  As an example, Roman took the R.L. Stine "Goosebumps" books and described how he rewrote them as graphic novels.

William C. Metzger, 77, Of Beacon BEACON, N.Y. -- William C. Metzger, a lifelong resident of Beacon, died Sunday, Dec. 20, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 77.  He was born Nov. 5, 1938, in Beacon to the late Clifford and Dorothy Wheeler Metzger.  Metzger was a retired lieutenant commander for the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1959-91. He was also a retired manager for IBM in East Fishkill. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Beacon, where he was the choir director and on the vestry. He was a former ski instructor, a supporter of the Army women's basketball team and an avid golfer.  …
