A tenant in Bergen County was arrested after police say he pointed a replica rifle at his landlord and pulled the trigger when the landlord came to check on repairs, police said.
The landlord, a 68-year-old Oakland resident, had entered the upstairs apartment on Hiawatha Boulevard to check if hot water heater repairs were successful just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, according to Captain Timothy Keenan of the Oakland Police Department.

A male victim, believed to be the tenant, was found in the living room with a handgun nearby after officials extinguished the blaze at 13 Tranquility Ct. around 2 a.m. Sunday, May 11, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

A 15-year-old from Pennsylvania led police on a high-speed multi-state chase from New Jersey into Rockland County in a stolen car before crashing into a tree on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, police said.

NJ Son Murdered Father In Jersey City: Prosecutor
A 25-year-old Jersey City man is charged with fatally shooting his 52-year-old father on Saturday, May 10, authorities said.
At 8:15 p.m., Jersey City police responded to 117-121 Wade St. and found Gerard Brooker, Sr. with gunshot wounds, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Suarez said.
His son, Gerard Brooker Jr., was arrested at 2:40 a.m. in Manhattan on Sunday, May 11, Suarez said.
Brooker Jr. is charged with murder and multiple weapons offenses, Suarez said.

Two Essex County corrections officers died by suspected suicide on the same day, authorities confirmed.
Officer Joey Hernandez's death occurred outside the Essex County Jail, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said, while Sgt. Joseph Trezza committed suicide in Roxbury, according to Carmen Martin, a spokesperson for the ECPO.
