A Newark man was recently sentenced to 70 months in prison for running a multistate car theft and fraud operation that defrauded victims of more than $285,000, authorities said.
Warren Guerrier, 47, had previously pleaded guilty in Newark federal court to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, US Attorney Phillip Sellinger said.

Bicyclist, 35, Decapitated By Driver Who Ran Red Light In Elizabeth, Police Say
A 35-year-old cyclist was decapitated after he was struck by a vehicle that ran a red light in Elizabeth on the late evening of Sunday, Aug. 11, authorities said.
The cyclist was crossing North Avenue and Spring Street when a 20-year-old driver ran a red light and struck him, decapitating him, a spokeswoman for the city said.
The cyclist's identity is being withheld, pending next of kin notification, authorities said.
The investigation is ongoing, authorities said. The driver remained on the scene, authorities said.

A man was robbed at gunpoint of $1,600 and assaulted in Newark on the early morning of Saturday, June 6, authorities said.
At 2 a.m., police responded to the 40 block of Napoleon Street and found a man suffering from lacerations to his face after he was assaulted and robbed by two to three suspects, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.

A 96-year-old former nun was struck and killed by a vehicle last week in Sussex County, police said.
Aurora Marcos Travis, of Newton, died on Thursday, June 27, after being struck by a 25-year-old driver who failed to yield as she crossed Madison Street in a marked crosswalk, local police said.
The driver had been turning left from Elm Street around 11 a.m., Newton police said. Travis was taken to Newton Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, while the driver was issued a summons for failure to yield, police said.
