Federal agents captured an ex-con who they said participated in a ring that stole BMWs, Mercedes and other luxury cars from towns in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.
Bilal Cureton, 30, of Newark and his cronies often used stolen vehicles to steal more cars, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said.
In one instance, she said, the Essex County crew members stole a Maserati GranTurisimo in the Jersey Shore town of Manalapan and drove it nearly 85 miles to New City in Rockland, where they took a Range Rover and a Porsche.

Newark Trio Facing Murder Charges In Hillside Shooting
Three Newark men including two already jailed on previous charges were charged in a Hillside shooting that left one man dead last March, authorities said Friday.
Ameer J. Holcomb, 22, Maleak S. Williams, 22, and Ismael Merrill, 28, were each charged with first-degree murder and two related weapons offenses, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo said.
Hillside police officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 1400 block of Center Street around 9 p.m. March 29, Ruotolo said.

Linden PD: Men Smoking Pot In Park Found With Semi-Automatic Handgun, Cocaine, MDMA
One man attempted to discard a semi-automatic handgun and cocaine and another had MDMA when they were confronted by police for allegedly smoking marijuana in a Union County park, authorities charged.
Linden residents Isaiah Joachim, 20, and Nanley Losier, 31, were smoking marijuana at St. Mark’s Park when they were approached by officers around 5 p.m. Monday, Police Lt. Christopher Guenther said.
As officers approached, Joachim reached into his waistband and tossed a semi-automatic handgun and cocaine, authorities said.

Police: Burglar Who Stole TVs, Sneakers, Cash From Hillside Home Busted With Pain Pills
A Newark man who broke into a Hillside home and stole valuables was found a week later with prescription pills, authorities said.
Marquill D. Wiggins of Newark, 25, broke into a Maple Avenue home through an open basement window and stole two TVs, several boxes of sneakers and crash, before fleeing around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 23, Hillside police chief Vincent Ricciardi said.
Hillside detectives identified Wiggins as a suspect the suspect vehicle after days of gathering evidence.
