Lake Hopatcong Man Threatened Victim Into Sending Thousands Of Dollars Online, Police Say
A Lake Hopatcong man was charged with extortion after threatening to hurt someone if he failed to send him money over the internet, authorities said. Jonathan Ortiz, 22, told the victim he'd face serious bodily injury if he didn't send him money through a transfer service, Franklin police said. As a result, the victim -- who met Ortiz on a social networking application around two years ago -- subsequently sent Ortiz thousands of dollars, police said. Ortiz was subsequently arrested and charged with theft by extortion. He was released in accordance with the New Jersey Bail Reform Act.

A Sussex County who once threatened to kidnap a JCP&L worker during a power outage was taken into custody again, this time for blaming a black man for the COVID-19 pandemic, said authorities who charged him. Authorities responding to ShopRite on reports of a bias incident Sunday morning found Robert A. Winter, 65, of Vernon, had used racial slurs while blaming a black man -- in part -- for the spread of coronavirus, Franklin police said in a release. A Sussex County woman who once "karate kicked" a police officer was arrested for doing the same thing again to a pair of officers and an EMT Monday, authorities said. Officers responding to reports of a vehicle driving erratically with two flat tires on County Route 631found Sheila A. Celentano, 44, who had abandoned her vehicle and was running down Newton Street barefoot, Franklin Borough police said. Celentano -- who had been drinking and was found with an open container of alcohol -- let her car roll into a ditch as she yelled profanities at police and resisted arrest, authorities said. …

Franklin Woman Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Teen
A Franklin woman is accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile, authorities said. Crystal Seidner, 38, was arrested after authorities received a tip that the teen -- between ages 13 and 16 -- was assaulted at a local home in November 2018, Franklin police said. Seidner was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. She was processed and released in accordance with the New Jersey bail reform act, pending an appearance in Sussex County Superior Court.

Man Who Stole Nearly $500 In Clothing, Merchandise From Walmart Nabbed In Franklin
Police arrested man who they say stole nearly $500 of merchandise from a Sussex County Walmart. Gerred Littles-Santiago, 30, of Unionville was caught on surveillance video stealing clothing, multiple cases of Red Bull and other merchandise totaling nearly $500 from Walmart in Franklin, local police said. The thefts occurred on Sept. 22 and Jan. 3, police say. Littles-Santiago was previously charged with DWI and petty larceny in Orange County, N.Y., records show.
